Visual Arts Forum - Artists
Russell Gain
Most of my work is pure abstraction concerned with colour, texture and surface comprising multiple layers of images. The layers which are mostly concealed are as important to the final result as those which are most visible. My intention is not that the viewer should be drawn to any focal point, but that the eye should range over the surface, taking in the detail of each area. I may be inspired by places, moods or other art ranging from Rothko to Renaissance altarpieces. I have recently started another strand of work which is more recognisably landscape-based. I work in acrylic on paper, canvas or wood.
